Monotremata: Ornithorhynchidae
Ornithorhynchus anatinus
The second day we saw this Platypus, it was feeding and swimming up-creek at nearly 11.00 o'clock in the morning, confirming the The Australian Museum Complete Book of Australian Mammals' assertion that whilst there is a general tendency to forage at dawn and dusk, at certain places and at certain times Platypuses may also be predominantly diurnal or nocturnal.*
Here the Platypus is nicely silhouetted, as it takes a short break from swimming, against a patch of sunlight reaching the creek through a break in the trees.
